You’ve been diagnosed, now what?
When you got diagnosed with HPV and/or cervical cell changes, what was the first question that came to your mind? For most of my clients and myself included, it was: “How do I get rid of this thing?”
As a Naturopath, surgical intervention was NOT my first priority, so the next question for me was, “How LONG will it take me to get rid of this thing?". And I needed to negotiate with my Gynocologist about this. I had CIN3 and she gave me three months (without a belief that my methods would work). Three months is not a long time to change something that had been there for MANY years. Being the rebel I am, I ended up waiting 5 months until I came back, I needed to make sure I had made positive progress. And I had (to the astonishment of my Gynecologist)!
In natural healing there is a saying that for every year you have had a disease, it will take 1 month to heal.
So, if you’ve had something for 3 years, that’s 3 months etc. Most of us have had HPV for much longer than that!
What is natural HPV healing?
Health is a state of balance in the body. When the various body systems work like a clockwork, all the parts are well oiled, working together, relying on each system to do their “job”. Disease such as HPV can happen when our body is not in balance, when some of the parts of the clockwork is not functioning optimally over long periods of time. When we talk about natural healing, the aim is to help all the body systems work well again.
Natural HPV healing uses
Diet changes
Supplements
Herbs
Improving sleep
Decreasing stress
Improving mindset and joy of life.
HPV healing does not mean that the HPV had been eradicated never to be seen again. HPV is a virus which will always be a part of you once you have it. BUT, when the body is in a state of health, the virus is locked safely in a drawer together with many other pathogens living dormant in our body. The goal is to heal our body systems to make them function optimally. This will enable the immune system to safely store the HPV virus away. This is a lifelong process. How long it takes for the virus to be tucked away safely, depends on a multitude of factors described below.
What factors influence HPV healing?
We often compare our healing journeys to other peoples journeys such as “I take the same supplements as xyz, but why am I still not getting better?”. We have certain expectations set by other peoples stories, but we often forget that we have our own story to account for! What was the last health comparison you made?
We need to respect our own story. Each of our journeys is unique an requires a unique approach.
To plan your unique healing journey, consider:
What is your starting point?
How old are you?
Have you got any previous or current health issues?
What diseases run in your family?
How long have you had HPV?
How advanced are your cervical cell changes?
What is your diet like?
How is your sleep?
What are your stress levels like (now and past)?
Are you happy? Sad? Anxious?
All these factors play a role in your healing potential, where you come from, and what your realistic goals can be, and how long it will take.
Life is not “fair”. Some people need to work harder to reach their healing goals than others. But instead of sulking about it, we can see it as a blessing to get to know our body and become the best version of our individual selves.
How committed are you?
Most of us are easily committed to change in theory, but many have a very hard time to actually put it into practice. It’s normal human nature, but again, some have it harder than others.
The more frequently you are used to getting out of your comfort zone, the easier the brain can deal with being in an uncomfortable situation. This is because the brain gets conditioned to know that there is a long term “reward” at the other side. There can be imbalances in the brain and body which make this process a lot harder, but generally, we can condition ourselves to embrace change and stick to it.
At our house, I relentlessly tell my family that their supplements will not help them just by looking at the pills. You must TAKE them for them to work. Or, you will not gain muscle by just downloading a program, you must DO the exercises! But, you also have to BELIEVE that whatever you do really will work.
You are the placebo of your healing!
Placebo accounts for 30% of healing results! So if you believe that what you are doing will help you, then you are much more likely to succeed!
So, how committed are you? Are you “all in” or just dipping your toes in the water? Do you have the mental and physical capacity to be “all in”? If not, what do you need to do to get there?
Remember to set your goals according to your commitment, otherwise they are not goals, but wishful thinking. And I have yet to meet a fairy!
So, what is the HPV healing time frame?
There is no healing time frame “one size fits all”. There are too many individual factors involved. But, what I generally recommend my HPV clients is to give themselves 6 months before HPV retesting. This will allow for the highest chance of a positive change.
In some cases, Gynecologists do not give the patients 6 months to work on their health, especially when dealing with high grade cell changes. In those case, I have smashed out 3-5 month programs with my clients where they go ALL IN! This also works, but not for everyone. On a physical and mental level you need to be very committed to make that work. Realistic goals based on individual needs and capacity is what you want to aim for.
